At The Ashton Care Home, our utmost priority is to ensure the health and wellbeing of everyone under our care, our staff and loved ones. We are dedicated to taking all necessary precautions to keep everyone safe from the risks of COVID-19, in accordance with the guidance and legislation issued by the government and relevant sector bodies. We are committed to keeping our residents, their families, and our staff informed about any developments related to COVID-19.

In response to the pandemic, we have diligently worked to create and implement new policies and procedures that offer peace of mind to all residents and visitors to our home.

Our COVID-19 Approach

Care homes in England can make risk-based decisions as to whether face masks are required to be worn. Following a risk assessment, our care home has made the decision to remove the universal wearing of masks. It is a personal choice whether visitors still wish to wear a mask and people receiving care can ask staff to wear face masks; our staff will continue to work in whichever way makes our residents most comfortable.

We continue to no longer have restrictions as to the number of visits per resident though we ask that you make arrangements in advance of your visit to ensure safe visiting practices can be maintained.

At any time, the decision to not wear face masks can be changed as determined by the Home Manager, company, local or national healthcare agencies. COVID-19 regulations and guidance from the Government, National, and Local Healthcare Agencies may also change. For further information, please click here or contact the Home Manager directly.

At The Ashton Care Home, we take every possible measure to ensure the safety of our home. We maintain a sufficient supply of personal protective equipment (PPE) and sanitation products within the home, and all team members are required to follow our infection prevention and control measures.

We understand the significance of keeping abreast of official advice and guidance issued by the government, Department of Health, and local NHS Trust. We strongly recommend that both our residents and team members remain up to date with all available vaccinations and boosters for both COVID-19 and flu. In the event that cases are detected in our home, we have a robust recording system in place, which allows us to take appropriate action promptly.

Staying Connected

At The Ashton Care Home, we place great importance on ensuring that our residents stay connected with their loved ones, especially given the impact of COVID-19. We provide support and care to our residents within the home, and we conduct a risk assessment for each individual leaving for day trips, including the use of respiratory screening questions upon their return, to ensure their safety. Although there are currently no requirements for temporary leave isolation, we recommend that all residents and team members have up-to-date vaccinations to reduce the risk of infection.

In the event of an outbreak in our home, we have several online devices available to our residents, allowing them to stay connected with their family and friends. We understand that human interaction is vital for their mental well-being, and we always encourage them to stay connected. We also offer a range of activities within the home, allowing our residents to continue with their hobbies or pursue new interests.

We understand the importance of COVID-19 and keeping our residents, their families, and our staff safe. At Penrose Court Care Home, we are always happy to assist and answer any questions or concerns you may have. Here are some of our FAQs regarding COVID-19.

Whilst being vaccinated is no longer mandatory we strongly recommend that all residents, their visitors, and team members at The Ashton Care Home are fully COVID-19 vaccinated, including future boosters, unless medically exempt. To reduce the risk of infection to others we will continue to encourage our team members to have all their vaccinations.

When transferring from the community or another care home a person does not need to isolate if the circumstances at the care home / interim care facility from which the person has transferred are known.

If the resident is symptomatic or has been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19, then they should isolate and perform two LFT tests on day (0), and again on day (2). Isolation can end following two negative tests.

If the resident tests positive in the home, they must be isolated for 5 days. The resident can then return to their normal activities if they feel well and do not have a high temperature (without the use of medication paracetamol).

Residents who test positive should avoid contact with other people who are eligible for COVID-19 treatments for 10 days after a positive test. Residents unable to take the test should isolate for 5 days.

During an outbreak, there may be risk assessments carried out to include but not limited to the control of visiting arrangements, admissions to the home, and the use of communal areas for a period of time.
