What is Dementia Care?

Dementia is an illness that affects a variety of mental functions, including speech and memory. Those living with dementia can continue to live their lives to the fullest with the right care and support, while staff help them keep their sense of self and independence for as long as possible. The Ashton Care Home understands that no two persons with dementia are the same, and that although some may only require minor assistance in managing their daily life, others may require far more. Our Dementia Care is tailored to each individual, and our home and staff provide the ideal environment for people to live a happy and safe life.

Our Approach to Dementia Care

Our staff have undertaken extensive dementia training and we take pride in offering the greatest level of care and respect to each resident. We work hard to provide appropriate treatment that allows each person to reach their full potential and live a happy and comfortable life. Social and mental stimulation and interaction are improved, and any frustrations and tensions associated with dementia are addressed, thanks to regularly planned activities. ur home was created with carefully designed spaces and knowledge of the need for comfort and familiarity, as well as practicalities such as en-suite wet rooms.

When is Dementia Care Necessary?

Dementia can present a multitude of obstacles on a daily basis for those who live with it, as well as those who care for them. Dementia is a progressive syndrome, which means that as time passes, the individual suffering from dementia will require more support and care. Dementia Care supplied by a care home will be required if a person’s Dementia has progressed to the point where they require more care and support than can be provided at home. The Ashton staff creates an authentic picture of a resident’s life with the help of family and loved ones, ensuring that both medical and wellness care is considered and facilitated. Working closely with family and loved ones helps us get to know our residents in order to create an accurate picture of their life – ensuring their continued happiness, comfort, and well-being.

Our COVID-19 Approach

In line with recent Government recommendations effective from April 2022, care homes in England no longer have restrictions as to the numbers of visits per resident though we ask that you make arrangements in advance of your visit to ensure safe visiting practices can be maintained. LFT testing is no longer mandatory, though to protect the safety and wellbeing of our residents and teams, we would appreciate your support in continuing to do so. Appropriate guidance for using PPE must be followed whilst visiting.

At any time, the COVID-19 regulations and guidance from the Government, National and Local Healthcare Agencies may change. For further information, please click here or contact the Home Manager directly.
